Stories and songs of freedom - for Passover or any time.
No knowledge of Jewish tradition is required to enjoy these original stories and songs.
(The process of creating one of the stories on this recording, "What Will Happen to Us Next," is described in Doug's article, The Most Important Thing.)
"Lipman tells the story of Passover in seven interlocking tales. His strong, deep voice, excellent sense of timing, and well-placed songs make the story of Moses and the Hebrew flight through the desert come alive.
In "Miriam's Song" we marvel at the wisdom and courage of seven-year-old Miriam, who refuses to let her family be divided by a Pharoah's murderous decress; in "What Will Happen to Us Next?" we sympathize with Moses, who leads 600,000 grumbling Jews to freedom, even as we acknowledge that freedom is frightening to a slave who "can complain about things but can't fix anything."
A children's chorus accompanies many of Lipman's songs, and at the end of the tape he asks these children to describe what freedom means to them and to imagine what the perfect Jerusalem would be like.
This will expand and enhance any library's holiday collection and any family's listening library." - The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books, The University of Illinois
